I am a cultural anthropologist and philosopher. My work explores how people in modern societies grapple with isolation, the loss of meaning, and the search for connection.
Drawing on fieldwork in Japan, I write about hikikomori and the broader social, cultural and spiritual questions it brings into view.
In my essays and forthcoming book, I combine ethnography and philosophy to reflect on the conditions of modern life and the possibilities of renewal. I am available for lectures, interviews, and collaborations.
